What do you do when you lose yourself? When you feel you have failed and can't find your way back?

How do you get back on track after giving up on a dream?

For over a year, I have not written a single post on this blog. Of course, I accept I wasn't always consistent but I never ever allowed the blog stay dormant for so long. Actually, I was beginning to get better at the frequency of my posts but then something happened,

If you click here, you will see a post where I encouraged all who read my blog to share as much as possible so that others could also visit the blog. Sadly, that wasn't happening, my blog wasn't getting traction and I got super discouraged. 

My last two posts got less than 50 views each and I just began to wonder if this was really worth it. Note that money was not even the cause of this, after all, I hadn't even commercialized the blog yet but i felt like people weren't even appreciating my work. I mean, every blogger or writer puts their work out there for people to see, appreciate and enjoy before we even begin talking money.  Now, when that satisfaction of people reading your work is not there either, it becomes really hard to stay motivated.

I hit rock bottom and it became increasingly hard to post anything up here.Every time I thought of posting something new on the blog, i would feel demotivated and eventually discard the idea. Weeks turned into months and eventually months turned into an entire year.

Last week, someone asked me about my blog and I could only say that I wasn't blogging anymore. The person asked why but I couldn't give a concrete answer. I opened my laptop and logged onto my dashboard. I had already dismantled the original look of the blog so I started to build it back together again but I still didn't know if I was ready to start writing again. 

On Saturday, I attended the SLAY Festival by She.Leads.Africa and to say it was a blessing is an understatement. One of the classes I was very eager to attend and which I did was the panel discussion by Dolapo Sijuwade, Ink Eze and Yemisi Odusanya (Sisi Yemmie) and they talked about "Turning Content into Cash". 

Of course, I learned a lot about how to monetize my content but I also learned how to OPTIMIZE my content. The power of staying consistent and following your passion even when it looks like everything is failing.

Ink Eze only started making money from Aso ebi Bella after 3 years and so did Sisi Yemmie with her Youtube Channel and now that is her major source of livelihood. These women are pacesetters in the Nigerian content community and they faced the same challenges that I am facing currently but they bossed up and kept moving.

I had to think long about why I started this blog in the first place. I did it because I loved to write and I wanted a platform to express myself. This is exactly what I am going to do, and if it takes 5 years for the rest of the world to catch up with my greatness, so be it.
